QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or G.E.D. required. Must have the following current certifications: Lifeguard Certification, First Aid & CPR for the Professional Rescuer (or equivalent i.e. Ellis & Associates, BSA) and Lifeguard Instructor certification mandatory. Two years of experience in aquatics field with demonstrated safety knowledge and process development and improvement required. Additional certifications in Swimming Lessons, WSI, Arthritis Foundation, Water fitness desired. Ability to obtain required CPO and Lifeguard Management certification within 6 months of hire. Must be able to pass lifeguard skills test as a part of the selection process.  Must be willing to work nights and weekends.

ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Hearing: within normal limits with or without use of corrective hearing devices.
  • Vision: adequate to read 12-point type with or without use of corrective lenses.
  • Must be able to verbally interact with staff, clients and public.
  • Manual dexterity of hands/fingers for writing, computer input.
  • Performs swimming rescues to patrons in distress including approaching, breaking holds, and carrying people, which may require the removal of the patron from the water.
  • Standing 75% of the day.
  • Walking 80% of the day.
  • Pushing up to 60 lbs.
  • Pulling, up to 60 lbs.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for setting the example for lifeguards to follow.
  • Directs guard rotation and breaks.
  • In the absence of the Aquatic Manager or supervisor, may serve as acting Manager (MOD).
  • Hands on lifeguarding and assisting with teaching and supervision.
  • Active part the Aquatics Team, leads by example and continually practices lifeguarding and swimming skills.
  • Dressed with equipment and prepared to be on deck or in the water when shift starts.
  • Efficient and confident when using rescue or safety equipment.
  • Wears uniform, fanny packs and carries rescue tube at all times.
  • Ensures pool and Center policies are being followed and enforced.
  • Assists members with questions or problems at all times, providing exceptional customer service.
  • Courteous to all participants, at all times.
  • Knows and promotes aquatic programs to all students and members.
  • Knows daily schedules.
  • Coordinates with Operations Team.
  • Creates schedules for Programming, Swim lessons, lifeguard related activities and other schedules as needed.
  • Supports managing activities, classes and usage on our membership platform ActiveNet.
  • Supports daily lifeguard rotations and coverage to account for changing staffing patterns.
  • Assist administration tasks such as, but not limited to, returning phone messages, maintaining records & reports, including chemical testing, equipment maintenance, incidents reports, class participation and facility usage, in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Responsible for compliance with all policies and procedures; especially aquatics opening and closing procedures and MOD.
  • Assist Aquatics Manager with Quarterly reports.
  • Attends facility staff meetings as required, serves on assigned committees and prepares reports as requested.
  • Completes cleaning assignments; follows written procedures for any bodily fluid discharge.
  • Supports CPO with daily chemical tests (3 times daily), troubleshoots chemical problems when needed, and adds briquettes when needed.
  • Reports any unsolvable problems to the supervisor immediately.
  • Follows defined Rotation (15 minutes at each Guard station, with one rotation in Lifeguard office), when patrons are in the water or on deck, maintaining visual contact at all times.
  • Keeps deck areas clear.
  • Responds immediately in an emergency to prevent further or more serious situations.
  • In the absence of a supervisor or manager, effectively deals with problems needing immediate attention.
  • Ensures pool inspections are being done and reports send to Aquatics Manager.
  • Ensures pool equipment is in functioning condition and reports send to Aquatics Manager.
  • With the Aquatics Manager, establish and maintain a written Emergency Action Plan for the Aquatics area. Conduct regular EAP drills. Work cooperatively with the Safety Coordinator to make sure policies are uniform across the facility.
  • Acts as facility safety champion
  • Actively monitors and seeks patron and staff safety.
  • Assists with and/or organizes Lifeguard certification, other certifications and in house training as assigned.
  • Makes sure the classes run properly.
  • Organizes Swim Lesson and other programs offered by Marimn Aquatics.
  • Plans, organizes and runs the Red Cross classes for Marimn Health, including LG training, CPR/First Aid/AED training.
  • Responds to assignments in a timely manner and communicates with the supervisor when timelines cannot be met.
  • Performs guarding assignments outside the Center, during special events for Marimn Health.
  • Participates in training to improve self and the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.
